Department Responsibilities and Personnel "The Department of Public Works is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all City-owned infrastructure and facilities within the City of Essexville and for providing a wide range of related services." Department Services Waste Collection - Waste collection services are contracted providing weekly collection on Monday or Tuesday except when a holiday falls on one of those days in which case trash will be collected the following day. Contact City Hall at 989-893-0772 for information about this service and your particular trash collection schedule.
Curb-side Recycling - The City encourages all residents to participate in the recycling program. Curbside recycling pickup is available to all residents and included with general waste collection services. Recycling bins are available at City Hall at no cost to residents
Brush Pick Up - Department of Public Works picks up brush on Monday and Tuesday of the first and third full weeks of each month, April through November of each year. Yard Waste Collection - Yard waste is picked up on each resident's regular trash collection day beginning the first week in April through November each year. Yard waste must be placed in solid containers marked "yard waste" or kraft paper bags for collection. Yard waste will not be picked up in plastic bags. Fall Leaf Collection - Residents must place their leaves in proper containers for yard waste pickup. It is a violation of the City Code to rake, sweep, or in any way deposit leaves into the street.
Report a Sewer Backup Incident If you have a sewer back up please contact the Department of Public Works immediately at 893-6101 or City Hall at 893-0772 during regular business hours. After regular business hours, holidays or weekends call 911 who will dispatch an on call employee to assist you. The following is being provided pursuant to Act 222 of Public Acts of 2001. PDF Section 19(1) of the Act states in part; "(T)o facilitate compliance with this section, a governmental agency owning or operating a sewage disposal system must make available public information about the provision of notice under this section." If you experience an overflow or back up of a sewage disposal system or storm water system, and you feel that you may have a claim for damages as a result of that sewer backup you must file such claim in writing with the Essexville City Clerk within 45 days after the overflow or back up was discovered or when in the exercise of reasonable diligence the back up or overflow should have been discovered. Written notice by claimants must contain the information required by Section 19 (2)(c) of the Act or recovery of damages may be prevented.
