PAYING UTILITY BILLS BY CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS

The City of Essexville will be accepting utility payments electronically.  The City has contracted with Official Payments Corporation (OPC) to facilitate these payments using major credit and debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo.  Payments may be made via the Internet at www.officialpayments.com or through the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone system at 1-800-2PAY-TAX.

PLEASE NOTE:  Official Payments Corporation charges a convenience fee for processing these payments.  At this time, the fee for this service is 3%.

At several points during the transaction process, the user is informed of the amount that will be charged. When you receive your credit card bill, you will see two line items on your bill.  One is for the utility bill amount and the other is for the convenience fee charged by OPC.

The following information will be needed in order to make a utility bill payment through OPC:

· User's first and last name

· Mailing address

· Daytime telephone number

· E-mail address

· Payment amount

· Credit card number, expiration date and primary identifier

· 11-digit account number located on your utility bill

· Jurisdiction Code for the City of Essexville which is 3292

The system performs an online authorization of the credit card payment and returns to you a unique confirmation number of the approved payment.  Typically, a payment session lasts approximately three (3) minutes.  Your payment is then deposited to our bank account within two to three business days.  If for any reason the credit card authorization is denied, the system advises you that the payment was not completed and you will need to contact the credit card issuing bank.
